Aurora

My local HBS has been unable to get me any vacuum packed Styrian Goldings but, has offered me some Aurora as a substitute.

I've not used them before but, should they be suitable for any beer that would normally call for a Styrian - I see the Alpha Acid is a lot higher than for the Styrian's I had been using so, presumably if I reduce the quantities accordingly, I should be okay?:-k

I particularly like the citrusy flavour the Styrians give - does anyone know if these will offer the same type of flavour?

I'm not going to use them in my next brew - I've a handful left of my old Styrians in the freezer but, I'd be interested to know for the future. Thanks all.

Another alternative to Styrian is Bobek (Which I've probably spelt incorrectly). I've also considered getting the aurora for use as a bittering hop and then using styrian/bobek for finishing hops

I believe that Aurora/'Super Styrians' are the main hop used in Deuchars IPA.

EDIT: The Caledonian website confirms this:

Ingredients
Malts: Golden Promise and Optic.
Hops: Fuggles, Super Styrian Goldings.

I have a pretty poor sense memory so I'd have trouble describing the flavour if you haven't tried it. From memory the flavour is kind of musky & earthy with some citrus.

That's promising. I had my first taste of Deuchars IPA on my way to Ascot racecourse the other week and was bowled over by the flavour. Good news.
