Bottling Beer

Post by BeerMan » Tue Feb 12, 2008 12:09 am

Hi all!

I'm still new to homebrew (just started my 5th kit - Brewferm Kreik) and have been dabbling with bottling rather than kegging. I've found my Wherry and Nelsons Revenge tastes bland and dry from the bottle and has far too much head. I use household sugar and its stored in my garage. Its been sitting for over 2 months and has cleared very well.
Should I dissolve the priming sugar in boiled water before adding it to the bottle? Would brewing sugar make much difference?
Does anyone have any suggestions how to improve it as all of the cherry beer is going in bottles.

Cheers

I dont think you'll have any trouble with the Brewferm Kriek - best kit I've made to date. Its pretty much clear after only 2 weeks in the bottle and tastes fantastic. Has the red, coppery glint already.

I bottle everything as it makes "Portion control" easier and it should allow you to keep a few bottles of your various brews aside for your own mini beer festival.

As has already been said, by far the easiest way is to add the sugar in a solution of previously boiled water. I do this to a plastic pressure vessel and syphon the brew to remove the majority of the sediment.

I leave in the Pressure vessel for a day or so and then bottle using a bottling stick. This is very cheap to buy if you don't have one already but makes it a lot easier and gives much better results. I syphon from the pressure vessel as well - using the tap introduces a lot of unwanted aeration.
