brewing a stout tomorrow and was thinking of a recipie along these lines
4 kg pale
300 g roast barley
200 g black malt
40 g northern brewer 90 mins
mash at 68 C
is that about right? we're novices and still learning the noble art!

That's an awful lot of black malt in your recipe. I would drop it to about 50g, and add some chocolate and crystal malt to the mix. You might find it'll suit your taste better. If your more after an Irish style stout add some flaked barley to the mash as well. 68c Mash? I prefer my mash temp to be around 65c for a stout. Hope this helps and good luck with your brew
