Hello gentlemen. I've got a question regarding the dispense of cask conditioned beer out of a corny. I get great results, but I get fobbing. This is due because the dip tube diameter is pretty small. This is the tube that draws the beer out of the keg. Do you think that if I increase the size of the vent hole, it will improve the pull? Currently I just connect the gas connector and leave it. It draws in air, but it's relatively small. I'm thinking of unscrewing the entire "IN" valve and just leave the hole. Or will this have no effect?

Cheers,

Whorst

Have you removed the poppet? If not try removing it.
No harm in not leaving the post off entirely!

I have had the advice of removing the beer out disconnect and pushing teh beer line over the threaded post and sealing with a clamp. Often fobbing in the beer line is not a problem with gas not going in quickly enough, but the lowered pressure in the beer line causes the gas to break out. reduce the restriction at the beer poppet and it goes away.

On commercial casks they normally use 1/2" ID line to supply the hand pumps. If the line run length is excessive then often they will use a flojet type pump in the beer line to push the beer to the hand pump . . . A check valve is essential in this configuration!!!

Stupid question - what is fobbing? Is that where you get an uneven pull and the beer splutters out because of air in the line?

Mysterio,

That is how I understand it - air in the line or C02 breaking out of the beer.

Worst, I was suggesting to take out the poppet remove the post on the beer out side as well - sorry it wasn't clear.

I have found that 2oz, and sorry you'll have to convert that, is the perfect amount of priming sugar for a corny keg. Beer pulls beautifully with no changes to the keg. I did remove the "In" gas side with a 7/8 deep socket. Sliding just the connector over it would probably get the same result.

Belgian Dubbel brewing tomorrow at approx. 8pm your time. I will report how the session goes. After the Dubbel, I need to brew a bitter, or best bitter for the homebrewers festival, May 2nd. I think I'll get some more of M&F organic pale and hop with Target and dry hop with Goldings. I'll spend some time in the recipe section and concoct something.
