i think ive killed the yeast (advice)

i think i may have put the yeast in my kit whilst the water and extract was to hot. i do not have a therm so i just tested the miixture with my hand, it was hot but not too hot that i had to remove my finger. Anyway it has not started to ferment.

my local brewers shop is 20 miles away, so i do not fancy a trip out just for a packet of brewers yeast, is it possible to add a sachet of that bakers yeast you can but in a supermarket?

I thought I'd killed my yeast when I made a starter with hot water instead of cool, was dreading the journey to get some more yeast but in the end it's fine and actually didn't take any longer to ferment than before so it hadn't killed ALL the yeast and there was enough viable stuff left to do it's job :D

The Mrs says (based on years in the catering industry but due to drinking too much HB she can't remember the exact details LOL) "Yeast is a lot hardier than most people think" and she was right in my books for what it's worth.

Hope it goes well for you

I was making some bread last night and was convinced I'd killed the yeast (i failed to let the element in the bread maker cool down between batches) but made a perfectly good loaf.

I still apologised to the poor little yeasties.
