Im planning a 10G batch tomorrow night of either fullers ESB or LP, i have been looking around the site for recipes and found quite few for both (quite a bit of difference in the recipes). I've brewed the LP twice before and know i can brew something v. tasty when attempting a LP clone.
Never having tasted ESB i really don't have a clue which recipe will do the best job of recreating it. Is there any consensus on a good ESB clone out there or even a clone recipe that people know makes a good beer?
What would you rather have 10G of sitting about the house ESB or LP?
ESB or LP
I don't have any amber either, by the time i dropped it and the mild it would probably be an altogether different beast.oblivious wrote:He is my one. oblivious you can drop the mild malt

Yeah its about 16 % of the total.DaaB wrote:That's a lot of flaked maize for an English ale imo and i'd go for some English hops to finish (you could add some more challenger if you don't have anything else). Just some thoughts anyway.
I might actually leave the ESB and have another bash at the london pride, when i think about it the reduced amount of grain in the mash tun for an LP clone will make the sparging less of an ordeal for this size of a brewlength.
Also i quite fancy trying the historically hopped version with goldings and fuggles (dave line version) which colinkleb thinks so much of.
The label on the back of my ESB bottle says
'ESB's rich malty notes are balanced by a unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops'.
But to me it tasted worse than a bottle of 6X i had recently, regardless of hops. I was very very disappointed to say the least. Especially as i used to love ESB.
Perhaps they just flick of the crap stuff to the 'colonies' as DaaB put it.
