Starsan makes my water turn PINK

Post by Dan » Tue Mar 04, 2008 7:32 pm

I circulated starsan around my CFC and left it full of the solution for 20mins
When i flushed it with clean water the starsan had turned copper pink. I can only imagine it has corroded enough copper to turn the water this colour.

Is star san suitable for copper? what do other people use?

Starsan is not really designed for use in a pumped system...it foams too much.

Saniclean is a better bet for your next purchase...lots of use now I know

I circulate, periodically over a hour period, a solution of saniclean and have no discolouration...however if you soak copper in it....wow...the result is soo shiny.

Did you clean your cfc prior to use?
If not the pink colour may be a one off due to flux and other contaminants on the copper.

the pink water was from the first proper clean it has ever had. So now you mention it I should be very glad that the star san stripped it down to the bare copper

You should have seen the amount of greasy crap that floated on the 90 deg c recirced soda crystal solution when I cleaned my cfc

Since then it's been clean as a whistle
