suggest a brew

Post by nofe4r » Fri Mar 21, 2008 7:28 pm

Hi folks.

Will be doing my second AG sometime this weekend. Although I like my lager I want to try an ale of some sort. Here is a list of what I have:

5.5kg Pale Malt
500g Crystal Malt
1kg Chocolate Malt
500g Roasted Barley
1kg Torrified Wheat

As for hops I have various amounts of Bramling Cross, Challenger, Fuggles, Goldings, Northdown and Progress.

Can anybody suggest a recipe?

I have, and again, and again but there so many choices.

Since I started brewing I am starting to find lager a bit boring (perhaps I am drinking too much  )

Since I drink lager I am unsure as to what expect from the ale recipes. I don't want anything too heavy but with flavour. A high alcohol content would be nice. I am still learning with what gives what taste.

Thanks.

What about one of Graham Wheelers, you have almost all the ingredients for Felinfoel`s Double Dragon. My favorite from his books. A lightish colour and good hop taste.

3700g pale malt
155g crystal malt
400g torrified wheat
670g white sugar
25g challenger
10g whitbread goldings
10g bramling cross
+ 15 wgv last 15 mins.
I would replace the wgv with fuggles [15g and 20g respectivly]. Have used variations like this a few times, always a good beer.

Mmmm. Thanks for both suggestions. I will pick from the two and report back.

Thanks.
James.
