4th brew kit - Muntons Nut Brown Ale - ** pics added **

Well this will be my last kit for a while as I probably wont have much time when baby is born, so I'm stocking up.

I do have one question though.....

My home brew shop didnt have any brewing sugar left and suggested that I just use normal sugar. Now I understand the implications of this and cant get a hold of brewing sugar unless I go on line and some of the P&P prices are a bit steep.

Will I be ok using this normal sugar along with dark spray malt ie 50/50. I really want to use the dark as it will give it more body.

What do you think, I dont want to ruin this one as so far the last three seem good.

Cheers

based on the kit your doing, and the fact that you mention 50g of sugar I think your talking about priming sugar, in which case normal sugar will be fine.

Another option is that sometimes a local chemist will sort you out with a bag of glucose, which is all brewers' sugar is I believe.

Good point, which is the same as dextrose isn't it?? If it is, I'm sure you can get that from Morrisons.

Wort started at 1041 with adjustment for the temp of 22 degrees.

This one has smelt the best yet! Really looking forward to it.

Good stuff Chris. I've only ever made up golden ales and bitters as this is what I drink out of preference, but I really must make a stout or mild or brown one day too, like you.

I bet it smells good, the darker ones have a lovely rich aroma.
Trouble is when fermenting it always makes me feel like a pint, even first thing in the morning

Next time, you could try 500g muscovado, 500g demerera, 500g T+L. Worked wonders for my last beer kit, oh and dry hop with some hops of your choice - it realy makes a beer kit shine

Which HBS do you use as I,ve been using Glenbrew in Whiteinch but traffic is bad opening hours not great and Stirling is as near to my home as Glasgow west end.
