brewday: odds and ends mild

Post by mb » Sat Mar 29, 2008 7:30 pm

i had a few bits and bobs of malts and hops that wanted using up, and i've had some cracking milds lately (Bateman's Dark, St Peter's and especially Darkstar Over the Moon) so i did this today:

23L

maris otter 3200g
crystal 250g
munich 250g
chocolate 250g
black 100g

only boiled for an hour
30g fuggles
20g cascade
10g northern brewer
went in at the start
and 10g of goldings went in with 5 minutes to go

1x gervin english ale yeast

bit of a slow run off into the fermenter, other than that plain aleing. got 22L @ 1038. it might be a touch strong and hoppy for a mild, but so is the darkstar, style guidelines are there to be broken.
Drinking: Brown Ale
Conditioning: Pale Ale- Target, Fuggles, Goldings
Fermenting:
Up Next: Abbey Single

Nothing wrong with strong in a Mild.

I thought Bitter was bitter and Mild was no so bitter and more malty, thus the choice of Bitter or Mild. I could be wrong
