Pendle Witches Brew

Well, Oggy's bar has proved rather popular of late and most of the Cornies have gurgled their last :cry:

Tomorrow I'm going to do Pop's stout but before I do that I'm going to wash the Ringwood yeast used in my first AG and use it in a summer quaffing ale following the Kiss principle. And utilising all my reserves of inventiveness I've called it

"Oggy's Ale":o

Brew length 20 litres

4.5kg Maris otter pale malt
150g Torrified Wheat

50g Goldings start of boil (60m)
20g Amarillo (10m)
10g Amarillo (0)
Whirflock tab (10m)

Est OG 1.048

Given my relative inexperience at AG brewing, I probably shouldn't be devising my own recipes...no matter how simple and I probably shouldn't be re-utilising yeast from a previous brew.

But what are rules for.

Having said that please let me know if the hop regime above is cr4p, though it's not meant to be too hoppy.

But be quick.

Please ignore the title of this post. This is not meant to be Pendle witches brew. That was my original idea until I found I hardly had any of the ingredients.

Anybody got a recipe for Moorehouses Blonde witch?

Just a suggestion based on the way I brew Amarillo for a 25l brew length.
Save the Goldings for something else. For start of boil 35 to 40g of Amarillo and at end of boil 80 to 90g of Amarillo, or if you prefer let the brew cool to 80c and then put the 80 to 90g of Amarillo in and steep for an hour for either choice.
Just hope you have enough hops.

Currently 40 mins into mash.

Well the brew went OK, Still not got the clear wort I am hoping for but I just Cornied AG1 and it was perfectly clear, with a nice and firm yeast cake in the bottom of the fermenter. I washed the yeast in cooled boiled water and pitched half of it into this brew. Will put a bit less in next time its fizzing :shock:

I was aiming for a light coloured brew but to be honest, this may be too light. OG was 1048 and I used Amarillo hops as recommended by Stonechat.

Smells great, but if it still looks like dishwater, next time I check the SG I might have to think about adding something. Any suggestions anyone?

Boil up a little brewers caramel/gravy browning with a little water if you are just after changing the colour or draw off some wort (sooner rather than later and raise the temperature in a pan to 70 deg and steep some crystal for 30 mins. Strain off the wort, bring to the boil and cool before adding. Id do this before the vigorous fermentation stage passes.
I've scooped a jugful out of the fermenter and it doesn't look too bad maybe a little lighter than Hen Harrier. But it really does smell wonderful with those Amarillo hops...and it tastes quite good.....OK so I.ve been drinking out of the FV again :oops:

I guess I could have put an egg-cupfull of Pop's stout in it...that would have turned it into Brown Ale :wink:

So thanks for the advice DaaB but I,m going to risk it [-o<

best action is no action, IMHO. just let it do it's thing and clear. you're going to have a blinder of a golden ale there. Very jealous! (I did a very similar brew and managed to empty the whole cornie over the floor of the brewery. still twitching at the thought of it...)
