Just a quick question before i go to work...
Ive brewed the Woodfordes Headcracker and the high finish has cursed me yet again!
from 1078 its gone down to 1020, its stayed there despite rousing and a repitch.
If youve tried this kit, is 1020 a bit too high for me to call it a day? will it benefit from DBE?
I dont mind bottling it now, i just dont want a beer thats too sweet (from my calculations it should be about 7.5%)
Cheers all, ill catch up when i get back from work.
Headcracker FG
Hi Chris
I made one of these ages ago (no extra fermentables as per instructions), it ended up at 1020 too. IMO it won't get much lower (for me all the Muntons kit's I did always struggled to get to a reasonable FG
strange all my other kits and my extract brews all got to 1012 or lower
). I found my Headcracker to be a dark sweetish beer with liquorice taste. A winter warmer type brew IMO. I've used DBE before in stuck fermentations to good effect, if you want to get a drier beer chucking in it wont hurt.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Cheers russ, thats sort of what i wanted to hear, 1020 for a sweetish but drinkable pint (it will still be 7.5%) or DBE for a drier pint.
You reckon its still a good drink at 1020?, i just dont want to bottle it if its going to be pants!
cheers for the responses...
Chris
Ps. all my woodfordes kits have finished high, you would have thought that they would have sorted it out by now, enough people have let them know the problem as its been going on for years now!!

Hi Chris
I've never had on go down as low as MM's .998 think my lowest was 1005 when I used DBE. (I used it when the brew had stuck at 1020 for a few days)
I'd say it will be drikable at where it is now (mine was OK, not to my taste but I drunk it!) You could edge your bet's-bottle half as it is now, leave half in the FV and add half a sachet of DBE to see what happens?
BTW all my Woodfordes kits finished high too, easily solved-I never bought another!
good luck
