Extra sugar in kit how strong?

Post by silkyuk9 » Fri Apr 04, 2008 9:18 pm

ive made a young's bitter kit, but this time i added a bag of the brewers sugar which is like icing sugar, and i also added a 1kg bag of granulated sugar.

normally i only add the required ammount as on the instructions. This time i decided to add 1kg more to see what the outcome was like, and more to the point a stronger home brew.

Tonight i tested the brew, the bitter is nice and clear as others have been and the taste is very similar to a normal recipe, i.e 1kg of sugar.

im guessing a regular kit with 1kg of sugar will be around 4% strength, but my question is....

what would you say the strength of this brew is??

the bitter is not sweet suggesting that too much sugar was added and the yeast could not ferment it all. it tastes just like all my other brew with only 1kg of sugar added.

ive had 3 pints tonight and im thinking that there does not seem to be any difference in taste or my 'reactions' than a normal 3 pints of a regular kit with only 1kg of sweetner.

comments please.
