Well the mash is on, problem number one has raised its head, my barley crusher maltmill seems to be knackered

. The drive roller has came loose (its being getting worse over the last few brews) and when you put the drill onto it the whole contraption jumps around the place. I've heard nothing but good things about the barley crusher so maybe i've just been unlucky, i'll be sending them and email about the problem see what they say.

Hope you get it sorted Delboy. I've only used mine to crush 4 brews and OK so far, a nice bit of kit to use. Fingers crossed it doesn't go the way your one has. I be interested to see the cause and hopefully, the remedy.

Well i know i could sort it easily enough if i bolted it down and give it a permanent home on a bench which is what i was planning on doing at some stage anyway . Could you do me a favour stonechat and feel the rollers on yours to see if they have any play (in and out) on the drive shaft you put the handle on. Maybe im just imagining that this is the problem? A bent drive shaft could of course be the cause but i don't remember doing anything to bend it and it certainlly doesn't look bent

just checked mine.
No play in the drive.
I set mine on top of a bucket when I use it and have had good luck so far.
I handcrank for some reason rather than taking 2 seconds to attach a drill and make shorter worker of it all.
My acted strange once - turned out I was trying to crush a rock that the good people at Crisp gave me as a gift for buying a sack of grain.
My handle was a bit loose when I first attached it but tightened up the screw and no worries since.

Nice one Del, I thought the crusher problems might have brought the process to a halt.
Hope the rest of the brew goes swimmingly

Sorry Delboy have just logged back on after doing the weighing and crushing for tomorrow's brew. Have spun the rollers by hand and there is no play in them. Have you still got your A4 sheet that came with it as the operating and maintenance instructions? In this it shows the position of the two philips head screws marked "A" that you undo to adjust the roller "B" to change the spacing. Has one of them come loose allowing the roller "B" to wobble?
