Sparging method

Post by Scroogemonster » Thu Apr 10, 2008 10:37 am

Thinking of going AG (used to do this 10 years ago) after doing a few kits to get back in to things. What is the easiest and best method of sparging? I notice the H+G mashing equipment setups don't include a sparging device of any sort. What could I use instead? :?

I have only ever fly sparged so I can't comment on batch sparging. I fill a 5 gallon barrel with ~80C water, that goes above the mash tun, I attatch a length of hose with an adjustable water sprayer and turn on the tap. It basically washes the remaining sugars from the grain and has worked a treat for me. I haven't looked into my efficiency yet so I can't comment on that, suffice to say I end up with very nice beer.
