AG brew No.1 - Recipe needed
AG brew No.1 - Recipe needed
I have most of my AG kit ready and hopefully will be brewing either this weekend or next but I need to decide on a recipe so I can get the ingredients in.
I am looking for a light colored easy drinking beer which has a refreshing grapefruity type flavour and a nicely floral hop aroma. Something around 4-4.5% ABV.
Any recommendations?

Althought it's all down to personal choice, what you like/don't like ... I find Hogs Back TEA rather easy drinking Norm's recipes has a recipe that I thought was definetely in the right ball park....
With the light amount of crystal and the balance of Fuggle and Golding hops it hits your target alchohol level without becomming demanding to drink. & To get your 'Grapefruit' Notes you could steep 15g - 20g of goldings whilst cooling like I did?

My version was batch sparged and the recipe is:-
Hopeful TEA Clone OG 0.1044 20L
4500g Maris Otter Pale Malt
375g Crystal
Goldings 18IBU's (90)
Fuggles 18 IBU's (90)
Golding Aroma/steep 20g
2 Sachets Danstar Nottingham yeast
However my first ever all grain was a Boddingtons from the Graham Wheeler BYORAAH book. That went down very well too.
Have Fun

That sounds on target, I had a beer at the Wetherspoons beer festival recently called Hook Norton 303 AD which tasted like what I am looking for. Have you tried this and how close would the above recipe come? I am not looking for an exact clone (unless someone has it) just something in the same ball park.
I adapted Barley Bottom's version of Bitter & twisted for batch sparging. I ought to have diluted to 23 litres to lower the OG but other than that, the recipe was great (just the operator at fault...).
I find choosing the recipe the hardest part
I toil over different recipe's for hours before choosing-so many beers, so little time
Out of the 7 i've done No.7 and AG#4 have been by far the best and easiest.
AG#4 was a 40 ltr batch. So i've scaled it down for 25ltr for you. This is a lovely pale ale with a good floral bouquet and good hop flavour. Deceptively easy to drink. We named it Wedding Ale.
Wedding Ale. The OG i was aiming for was 1049
5204g Maris Otter
90 min boil
49g Challenger-8.2% AA
5g Green Bullet-13.2% AA
Add 10g Nelson Sauvin-13.6% AA last 15 mins
SO4 Yeast-one sachet.
007 Ale. This is going to be one i brew often as it's so nice to drink. I ended up with 30 ltr at OG-1046.
5222 Maris Otter
418g Crystal
30g Chocolate
Hops boil 90 mins.
13g Sticklebract-11.2%
11g Green Bullet-13.2%
Last 15mins add 15g Green Bullet & 10g Goldings-4.5% AA. One tsp Irish Moss.
I used 1968 ESB yeast but you could use any ale yeast i guess.
DaaB's easy recipe is probably the most straight forward though
5kg MO
200g Crystal
53g Fuggles 60 min boil
27g Fuggles for last 10 mins
20g Fuggles Steep.
I think the hops were measured out to utilise the 100g of fuggles i had. The og ended up at 1040 and the ABV 4.3%. Tasted lovely to me and was a nice light coloured ale.
Good Luck MM
