Just about to keg.

Almost ready to siphon my first (for 20 years, anyway) brew into a King Keg.
Just to be absolutely sure that the beer will clear, is it advisable to add finings and if so do you add it at the same time as the priming DME/sugar solution.
Checking the SG in a trial jar - 1050 down to 1013 - it seemed that the brew was quite cloudy and of course a King Keg is totally opaque so cannot check till the first pint is poured.
Intend to leave it at least 6 weeks before trying, very difficult I know!
Cheers.

You can do but it should clear on its own without. Finings won't work with "warm"beer so chill it in a garage or somewhere cool for a week or two before adding finings. The kits you are doing are good quality so clearing shouldn't be an issue.
Your gravity is fine , time is all you need (if you can leave it that is, I can't help meself personally!)

Thanks for the reply, very useful.
One question though. IF I decide to add the finings after a week, wouldn't opening the keg ruin all the good work done by the priming sugars?
I have a WidgetWorld system at hand for topping up the pressure later on but wouldn't it be preferable, initially at least, to have natural carbonation?
I think that since this is my first brew for quite some time I will just leave it alone, as you suggested, and see what happens.
Thanks again.

yes you will lose pressure, but carbonation doesn't happen all at once. it will take time for all the primings to ferment, so cracking the head open will vent any gas under pressure (venting any unwanted oxygen) and it only takes a minute to add the finings, stir and replace the keg lid. carbonation will continue even after venting.

The Brewmaker one i use, you put in after primiary fermenation and leave for 3 to 5 days before you bottle or keg...

I take it there are different ways depending on what type you get?

I wouldn't bother with finings at this stage. Just leave it for around 3 plus weeks and enjoy. I usually leave it for 2 weeks at between 16 and 22C (this lets it mature and drop bright quicker) then a week or so in my fridge at around 10C.

Thanks for all the very useful suggestions and advice.
Intend to get about 5 or 6 brews on the go over the next couple of months, to begin building up stocks, so will 'experiment' slightly with each and hopefully enjoy the results.
Thanks again.

I usuually find that the 1st half a pint or so is always cloudy no matter how long i leave it. Sisappointed I then crack another and its miraculously clear! Presumably this is due to the beer in the pipe from the float?

Anyway, good luck :)
