HELP - BOTTLE BOMBS

Post by gullarm » Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:11 pm

I have over primed my beer, I brewed some Coopers Lager in my King Keg with the lid on, then released the pressure and primed with 80 grams of sugar.

When I bottled it I thought 'this is a bit fizzy', but I still carried on.

Last week one of the bottles exploded by my back door, so I have released some of the pressure by lifting the caps slightly, but after a week they are all still over primed – Im unsure how much pressure to release. Dont want flat lager!

I have tried a few of the smaller bottles to sample, but the yeast lifts when I crack open the cap even when I do it very slowly over several minutes also the beads are huge.

I have tried cooling them overnight, I just think there is to much BANG in there.

Now can I release all the pressure very slowly – let the beer go flat perhaps over 4-5 hours - pop in a bit of sugar, reseal and let it prime again or is it a wasted cause.

If I reseal, how much sugar should I use per 500ml bottle.

I have 38 pints sitting outside doing nothing.
