Help with FG

Post by GILBERN » Thu May 01, 2008 9:02 pm

Hi there
Can any one tell me if my FG should be higher or lower or evan the same as the stated FG on the instruction (1005 or lower) as I have used a malt extract instead of brewing sugar, its at 1008 at the moment. This is its 1st reading Also I have got some spray malt for my next brew - will my FG differ with this or be the same.
Thanks
Nick

what you are looking for is stability in the readings, so you know its finished when you have the same reading 2/3 days apart.

This means it has stopped fermenting and is safe to bottle/keg.

in my experience beers very rarely reach the FG on the kit instructions, yours seems very near though!

1008 is fine, take another reading in 24 hours and if the same then bottle/keg it.

Hi Guy's, 24 hours latter & its still at 1008, so I will let it settle & then bottle
Thanks for your help

P.S I have just tried my Morgans - Iron bark dark ale that I brewed with 1K of brown sugar & 250g of white sugar & its. . . well pritty good.
Looks like Coke/Pepsi but with a creamy head.
