Roger's Brewday 3/5/08 (extract)

Post by Roger » Sat May 03, 2008 4:53 pm

As mentioned in a previous thread my next brew would be the extract version of the Gouden Charlie recipe from the Pierre Rajotte book on Belgian Ale.
Yesterday afternoon John from the H&G dropped off my new boiler :D

Yes I know you've seen one before but this is mine and I love it :D

and today it was christened with this little lot.

I did wonder where I would get Orange blossom honey from but the local Co-Op have it

The book gives a OG of 1.070 as my wasn't an exact copy I'm not too worried mine has turned out at 1.060. Strong enough I think and as long as it tastes good who cares

Cheers Daab, I'll remember to add extract myself in future.

Thanks for the tip and I'm glad there is a reason for the undershoot. If it hadn't been as high as 1.060 I might have been a bit concerned and thrown something in as you suggest. Again I'll remember that for future ref.
Thanks,

Roger

Hey Roger, missed this post somehow

Was it a good month away at work?

great brewday pics, glad you've got yourself a boiler, one closer step to AG.

This is what it looks like today,

Must admit I was a little suprised. I wouldn't normally take a hydrometer reading this early on, only on the third day. Down to about 1.022 already.
I used Brewferm dried ale yeast made up as a starter and I'm also using a heater belt so hopefully thanks to a good start and steady temp. everything is ok, just a fast worker.

Hello Garth, we must 've been posting here at the same time. Spent my month away dreaming of buying a boiler :D
I brewed in the kitchen and think it might be the last time, I don't know why she was so suprised by the amount of steam and smell we used to live in Masham :D :D
