as V1 says, you just use th eup and down arrows to change temp but the codes for the two menus are 0089 and 0036.

Vossy, good to see the old recipe getting an airing. I'm going to make it myself next weekend if I get a chance.

It's a belter alright 8)

Just realised I mashed at the next recipes temp instead of 66 deg c...oh well, what's half a degree between friends...(Don't start on about HERMS  )

Well, that's brew 1 done and dusted.

Into the fv you go, 21.5 deg c.

Brew number 2

Oatmeal Stout

This was the Sam Smiths recipe but I've replaced 10% of the grain bill with flaked barley after talking to eskimo bob, so,
Targets, 60 ltr brew length, OG 1048, IBU 30, 75% efficiency

In the tun

9.49kg Maris Otter
1.3kg Flaked barley
0.73kg Crystal
0.73kg Chocolate
0.73kg Taosted oats
0.27kg Roasted Barley
14.92g CaCl
7.47g NaCl

Mashing at 65.5 for 1 hour, reduced from 1.5!

In the copper

200g EKG 3.7%AA (60 min)
14g CaCl
7g NaCl
1 x whirlfloc (last 10 min)
100g EKG at 80 deg c aroma hops
Yeast S04

Doughed in 30 mins to go 8)

Do you treat your water twice, in the tun and in the copper?

No, for the moment I'm just splitting the bulk into 2, adding half in the tun and half in the copper.

I am starting to have problems with my plastic buckets - I need (want) shiny things...

Is this normal?

Just plugged my brix figures into the refractometer tool on e-bay and I've seriously overshot on the Hefe....again
I used 65% as my target efficiency for 1045 but I've ended up with 1052 which I make 75%...which is nice...it'll just be stronger than the last one

The oatmeal came out spot on at 1048

I've been batch sparging but in a slightly different, more lazy way.
I use DaaB's batch calculator to work out total pre boil volume required and then just divide by 2, therefore no addition to the initial mash liquor.
It's working very well and not affecting my efficiency at the mo and the beers produced all taste great...to me
