(another) Townes IPA - 14/05/08

[Buzz]

Been so busy with work a month had passed without a brew so I thought it was time to put it right. Brewed Townes IPA from Marc's book, adjusted to my efficiency;

5500g Pale Malt
220g Wheat Malt
73g Cascade (6.8%) 90 mins
27g Cascade (6.8%) 15 mins

1 pkt S-04

No dramas until my Bruheat boiler did the cutting out thing every half minute or so, so very difficult to get a rolling boil. Achieved the hot break though and the wort looked clear enough at the end so, I think all is well.

First time I've used Cascade and I'm loving that aroma. Fantastic. I didn't plan to take pics but managed some of the hops and wort...

I tend to first wort hop with half the bittering hops...

The S-04 is doing it's thing as we speak and I've taken a screwdriver the the Bruheat boiler and removed that safety cut-out thing. Thanks DaaB for the post on that.

Second that, though the S04 may add a nice sweetness to the cascade.

Sorry to bump this up but, I have to report that from the samples I've had (quality control you understand) this brew tastes FANTASTIC. It's currently in the corni getting carbonated for a party this Saturday. I'd usually give it another couple of weeks but, it's the guy's 65th and the only other brew I have ready is a Winter Royal which isn't really a session beer at 5.6% (although my brother would probably disagree).

Anyhow, if you've been considering doing this one, deliberate no further. It's a winner and I'll be doing another batch later this week as there's sure to be none left of the current brew after saturday

Nice one Buzz, I've also currently got it doing its thing in the FV and even the room its sitting in is smelling fantastic from the cascade. Can't wait till its ready

Nice one Buzz I went for 100g aroma Cascade in 50L, they are now in the keg and the samples are fantastic

I like the fact that the simplest of brews tend to give fantastic results

Me too. I've got this one coming up to 2 weeks in the keg and tried it yesterday and it is definately a good 'un!

I also added 20g more cascade at 80C (19ltr brew) and the aroma is just great. This one might start getting drunk sooner than I had hoped(a bit like me) but its just soooo good!

This will get brewed again as cascade is, so far, one of my favourite hops

Hope you're right, also brewed this recently with S-04 and lots of late hops! Should be ready in about 2 weeks, but early tasting suggests plenty of grapefruit aftertaste!
