Kellet (Limestone) Brewery Blaggers Brew

Back in March, I brewed a very light Ale made with only Pale Maris otter and a small amount of Torrified wheat.

On the advice of Stonechat supported by Gurgeh I used Amarillo hops about 150g in a 20l length.

When I transferred it to the fermentation vessel it looked like Dishwater

I wasn't expecting much from this brew but yesterday I reluctantly connected the cornie up to the pump......and Man o man what a taste. I was going to photograph it, but every time I pull a pint..I cant resist quaffing the Bhuggah :lol:

So, I quite fancy brewing something similar but more so...and I have come up with this likkle tinkah

Blaggers Brew (named after the method used for obtaining a not insignificant quantity of Cascade Hops)

20l brew length

4.5kg Pale malt (Maris otter)
0.5kg Lager malt
0.15kg Torrified wheat

Cascade hops 10g (60min) 6 IBU
Cascade hops 70g (15min) 24 IBU
Cascade hops 30g (steep 30mins)

Whirflock tab (15mins)
SO4 yeast

Before I commit liquor to HLT. Anybody got any advice experience of using Cascade hops...will I end up with alcoholic grapefruit juice?...Is that a bad thing? :lol:

Well, She's boiling away happily 30 mins into 60min boil. All went according to plan except the 90 min mash became 120mins..was busy elsewhere and forgot about it :roll:

Looks even more like dishwater than the last one :D

Seems to be the day for longer-than-planned mashes :)

Hope the rest of the evening goes well - here's to cloudy, trub-saturated wort :D

Congratulations on the Amarillo brew. I finished off a barrel on Friday night that used 180g of Amarillo for 25.5 litres and that was 5%abv grapefruit juice, but I loved it!

I bottled 26litres of a 1048OG brew that had 140g of Cascade in it on 13/5/08, so in another four weeks will be able to report on it. I have used Cascade quite a bit, using it in several Townes Brewery IPAs and in a couple of Hunky Dorys, as well as several of my top of the head creations. A lovely hop that doesn't seem to give any harshness.

Hope your Blaggers turns out a real Bramah :lol:
