Well, it looks like I have fallen foul to dodgy tap water.... : ( Currently drowning my sorrows with my first batch of TC!!

I think the benefits of treated water should be made clearer on the kits.
Trouble is, to treat 23 litres or so of water you generally are going to need more kit than the basic set-up. I suppose the simplest set-up would be a spare FV with a tap which is filled with water and treated, then all the water for the kit is taken from that, e.g into the kettle for boiling etc.
You can't just plop a campden tablet into the wort - it's too late by then.

For kits you can treat 23 litres and then once treated remove a few litres, then mix the extract into the 20 litres or so that's left and then add the dissolved sugar mixture and top up with the left over treated water. Not ideal but it works, Much better to just buy another FV for £7.99

Well, the Wherry went down the drain on Sunday. : (

I then made up a Milestone IPA kit but treated the water in a barrel first. Filled it to the top, added half a crushed campden tab, left it for a bit. All water used for the kit then came from the barrel.

Fingers crossed.
