If you are rehydrating then treated water is fine, though if it was me I would use about 50 ml of water. DaaB's advise is always good though so I won't contradict him.

Which yeast is up to you but I would use S04

Thanks guys :D

It's in the copper now.

First hops are in :D

All done - I hope..

Managed to get a couple of piccies when I got a bit less frantic. Enjoy:

Hotbreak just starting:

Bubble bubble toil and trouble:

Collecting & Adding some O2:

Measuring up - Finished @ 1048 (adjusted for 25c)

I lost a litre somewhere - ended up with just over 22L

I have no idea what my efficiency is, but i'm happy, tired and off to bed.

:D :D :D :D

Thank's to all who gave advice and help - lets hope it turns out drinkable

Good work B 8)
That was a late finnish

It might well be worth double checking that the degrations on the side of the fv are accurate before the next brew, (assuming you haven't done them yourself)

Thank you - taken with a Canon 20D / 28-135IS / 430ex, was surprised with the bokeh, I would have my 50mm 1.8 on the camera but was knackered

Now its bubbling away nicely in the cupboard under the stairs. It's under airlock as I'm worried about dust and critters in there.

Do I need to chuck this lot into a SFV at some point before racking it to a keg/cornie?

Should I add some Isingard finings, if so at which point?

So, you've gone and done it on your own!
Are you still allowed out tomorrow to take some more pics and have a few samples in Hemel?

Good to see it went well, despite the late finish.
Check out the beers we have for sale @ Mix Brewery

Another question - sorry.

I could never see what was going on in my KK whilst brewing so I don't know what looks normal.

So my beer is bubbling away nicely, the head has developed some brown claggy stuff though, is this trub? should I be worried?

Thanks in advance,

John

Yes and no
The brown stuff is perfectly normal and it'll be hard for you to clean off the fv, when you come to clean it,.....don't use a scourer

Crack the lid off (wipe it first so no dust comes off and goes into your fv) and have a look at the yeast head. If there's a load of brown gunk on top you may wish to skim it off.
It is very bitter (have a taste). Some say it has no effect when it falls into the beer, others say it can taint a beer.

I just err on the side of safety and skim it off with a mini sanitised sieve.
If you do skim it, just remove the borwn stuff leaving the yeast head underneath intact if you can....easier said then done

Again, an excellent take on the subject and great depth of field/bokeh!
