Hello there

Post by pantsmachine » Wed May 28, 2008 7:11 pm

Well at the tender age of almost 40 i have discovered my lifes hobby! No slagging me off but i have started with a beer machine 2000. I am on my 3rd completed batch(in fact i am drinking a bottle of it now). A pale ale good clarity and taste and an acceptable but not overwhelming kick to it. My 4th batch is fermenting as i type. A belgian white beer kit from bru paks(went mental and bought 6 of them, all different). Having a great time just a pity i am stuck at 10 ltr batches. I will rectify this once i have went through all my bru paks. I think i will go up to a 9 gallon batch capability. Anyway just saying hello and i hope you will help me out when i get stuck further down the road! Just getting my head round the difference tween bottom fermenting and top fermenting yeasts, steep learning curve dead ahead captain!

I went into my local healthfood/greengrocer today and they had a small homebrew section! Left with a glass hydrometer, a bottle of finings 2 of 2nd hand gallon demijohns, 2 new bungs & traps for the demi johns and a 1/3kg of organic barley liquid malt extract all for under a tenner. The belgian white beer is now finishing its ferment in the 2 demijohns with bung and traps fitted. I have set up my second 2 1/2 gallon brupack(guiness clone) in the beer machine pv, also put in the 1/3rdkg of organic BME and boiled a few dates in with the hops bags to see what happens at the end. Great fun this homebrew lark!
