I`m sure the answer`s on here somewhere but I cant find it. I want to replace the sugar in my kit for light DME and feel a bit dumb asking but is 500 grams of sugar swapped for 500 grams of DME ( the kit makes 12 litres ) or is the ratio different?
Thanks for your patience.
Quite easy to get hooked on this brewing game isnt it.
Naive Q, LME for sugar ratio
I'll have a stab.
1 pound of DME disolved in 1 gallon of water yields a gravity of about 1.040 (40 points per gallon, ppg).
Brewers sugar (also called corn sugar, or dextrose) yields about 42 points.
Cane suger (ie: a bag of Tate & Lyle) yields about 46.
So assuming the sugar is brewers sugar,
500 * 42/40 - means you should add 525g of DME.
