Dark Thingy brewday 06/16/08

Post by PGSteamer » Mon Jun 16, 2008 5:12 pm

Taking the day off work so today is a brewday :D

Currently heating the mash water for this recipe:

Brew length around 15 litres.

2.27kg pale malt
110g black patent malt
110g roasted barley
220g flaked wheat

I have 28g Saaz and 56g East Kent Goldings to play around with. Think I might just stick with the EKGs, around 45g worth.

For yeast I have S-04, Nottingham, S-33 and US-05. Thinking I'll give US-05 a try.

Pics to come...

I'd add a bit of cold water to bring the mash temp down to get it sorted a bit more quickly. Oh, and I've just realised where you are and its not an evening brew

It all went very well. I'm feeling very contented and worry free about this beer. The wort was cooled and aerated well and the yeast took off a couple of hours after pitching.

Trying to get a workable method down on my system, I tried a couple of new little things. Used my new hop strainer to great effect. Worked a treat.

O.G. of 1.056 is good. I'll upload the rest of the pics when I can.
