priming, using dme whats the best weight?

Hi everyone,

After brewing my first kit three weeks ago (coopers lager using sugar just as the instructions said - more of that later) I've opened my first bottle and it tastes nice, but is extremely flat. I'm talking flat like water, I'd used 250g of castor sugar to prime 23 litres but got nothing. I think I've either done something massively wrong or got my measurements A*%e about T$t.

I'll give you a brief run down on what i'd done

a)Fermented in primary 6 days @ 20 degrees using kit yeast and 100% castor sugar - FG 1.006
b)Moved to secondary fermentation vessel, left for two days
c)Dissolved 250g castor sugar in 400ml water and boiled then allowed to cool. I then added this straight to the 2nd vessel, which I'm now aware should of been in a 3rd bucket
d)Bottled lager in brown 500ml bottles and capped
e)Stupidly placed in fridge for 4 hours (did some reading- paniced - removed from fridge to under the stairs at 16 degrees)
f)Left for two weeks and had my first one, tastes reasonable. A bit watery but I'm putting that down to the sugar, but is very flat

Please point out the errors of my ways, cause I don't want to repeat them on my second brew (which is now in secondary - I've switched from sugar to 50% DME, 25% brewers sugar and 25% candid sugar and it's a muntons pilsner kit)

Any advice greatly welcomed,
Alex

Cheers for the advice DaaB, very much appreciated. I'll report back with results in three weeks (if I can wait  )

I was hoping to prime my second brew with DME, its a 5 gallon mix and I was wondering what weight you'd all recommend. Its a muntons pilsner kit by the way.

Cheers, Alex
