Well after being advised by you guys and finally getting round to it i made my IC last week.
Did a brew yesterday and through in the IC to cool the wort down after the boil.
And to say im surprised is a MASSIVE understatment. I cant believe i brought the temp down from 100*c to 23*c in 20 mins!
Impressed or what. That alone just saved me 1 hour 40 mins of my time sitting about waiting.!
Bloody unbelivable. I so chuffed.
Thanks all.

Thought id whack up a few pics of it.
Made it by wrapping it around a demi john as someone here recommended (cant remember who it was at the mo, but cheers matey)
10meters of 10mm Copper. 2x 10mm to 15mm attached to the end of the arms. and 2x 15mm sleeves to go over the step up to bring it to 15mm. Used Hoselock Connectors to push onto the 15mm which you just tighten up.
Demi John Holding it up.
Hoselock Connector
With the Hoses connected to the Tap and the IC.

Nice work. How do you connect the hozelock connectors? Looks like something is soldered there

The hose lock connectors are the type you push over a kitchen tap (as i have) and has a Type of jubilee clip on it, you tighten the clip and it clamps the top rubber half to the tap to form a seal.
Done the same on the IC.
The solderd piece you can see is the 10mm, to 15mm adapter i have soldered to the 10mm reel of pipe.
so 10mm pipe - solder on a 10mm-15mm adapter to bring it to 15mm - i then also added a 15mm-15mm sleeve over the top of that also just to pack it out that extra 1mm or so. then the hose lock is pushed over that. and tightened up.

Nice job.
I think I'll go get one of the 10mm to 15mm adaptors myself. For some reason, my IC (from H&G) has a 10-15mm adaptor on one side, but is bare 10mm pipe on the other.
I slid a piece of garden hose over the 15mm side which was a good snug fit, but had to use a piece of siphon tube on the 10mm side - and it's not the best fit, what's more the siphon tube goes very soft when there's boiling water coming out of the cooler. The problem with this, is that I can't turn the tap on very hard in case it blows off or leaks water into the wort.
If I put a 10-15mm adaptor on that side, I can use another piece of garden hose on the output, clamp it in place with a couple of hose clips and then I'll be able to force more water though it, which should increase the cooling performance.
Right - that's a trip to B&Q today.....and while I'm there I might as well toddle over to Tongham and go pay a visit to the Hog's Back Brewery shop....

If you don't fancy soldering you can slip some 3/8" (10mm) pvc tube over the copper which takes it nicely up to 1/2" hose size which takes a standard hoselock connector.

OK, but in your picture looks like there's some thicker copper tubing that the pvc tube is clamped to? What's that and is that soldered?

Ok that makes sense now, thanks. So only a short sleeve of 3/8" tube on the copper then clamp the normal hose to that. Cool
Just need to find a suitable telegraph pole now...

ok so in therory you could adapt this design to go round cornies to keep them cool? how do you bend the pipe without kinking it?
