AG #10 - Guinness "clone" - 29/6/08

Post by ECR » Sun Jun 29, 2008 7:52 pm

Kicked off about 10am today with a slight variant on the Dave Line 7:1:1 recipe referred to in a recent thread:

4000g Maris Otter
570g Flaked Barley
570g Roasted Barley

57g Goldings - 60 minutes (not authentic, I know, but all I had!)
25g Fuggles - 30 minutes (as above)

Nottingham yeast

The grain bill:

90 minute mash (ooh, it doesn't look identical to the other two at all  )

First runnings:

Start of the boil:

Running into the fermenter:

The final results of the weekend's labours: #8 on the right, #9 in the middle and #10 on the left 8) :

I have really enjoyed this weekend, and it has been particularly good to learn more about how my set-up behaves, and getting the chance to repeat things immediately, rather than just brewing once every few weeks (or months!)

With luck, I should have a reasonable supply of decent beer shortly :D

Yes, I have. It had to be done, given no brewing since February and hence no decent beer. It was actually Mrs R who suggested doing all three in one weekend. I think she could see it stretching out over several weeks otherwise

Into the keg Friday 11/7/08.

OG was 1.051, 23 litres. Fermented down to 1.012.

So, 15 gallons of beer maturing nicely in the garage now

Fantastic. You must be a bit knackered there, but what a brilliant effot. I really hope the beer comes out great.
Having only brewed once today, I realise how tiring it is to brew. Despite the fact that you wait during the mash and boil, you still have things to do. All I can say is thank God I've not got 50+ casks to wash as well :-({|=
