gelatine for me from now on
gelatine for me from now on
Ive just used isinglass for the first time in my latest brew, used to use gelatine but thought Id have a play . I have to say Ive had much better results with the gelatine, i followed the instructions etc but it was still not as clear as usual. is there any benefit in perservering with the isinglss if Im happy with the gelatine ?
buy a pack of 5 or 10 sachets from your local supermarket, it should be in the cake baking section. when you transfer to the barrel heat half a pint of the beer on the hob and add your priming sugar and the gelatine, stir it in and add to the rest of the brew. leave for a couple for weeks at least and bingo.Frisp wrote:How do you use Gelatine. I have seen it in my HBS and its liquid but there are no flippin instructions.

Im sure you can get it clearer using isinglass but gelatine is so simple and cheap I just prefer it. especially with a good yeast like safale 04 .
cheers Daab, I was also put off by the appearance of the isinglass it reminded me of something that I wouldnt want to drink at allDaaB wrote:Most hombrewers IG is very poor but properly stored and used it is very good but gelatine will do just as well as the poor stuff if not better and it's cheaper.
There's no other benefit to using IG though, if you find gelatine better then stick with it IMO

What CK said, and here it is if you like pictures (half way down the page).Frisp wrote:How do you use Gelatine. I have seen it in my HBS and its liquid but there are no flippin instructions.

Ok if i added 2-3 teaspoons of gelatine direct to my brew on sunday and then added CO2 and stuck the cornie in the temp controlled freezer.
would i be best off leaving it as it is now,
or would it be an idea to make up a gelatine mix in 100ml of warm water and open the cornie lid and add this mix in?
