Whorst's Old World Classic Mild

Post by Whorst » Sat Aug 09, 2008 5:03 pm

3.175kg Maris Otter
.226kg Chocolate Malt-Light
.226kg Crystal Malt-120L
.3401kg Crystal Malt-60L
21.26g EKG(45 minutes)
Mash at 67.2C
White Labs WLP002
IBU's = 18
Dry hop with 18g EKG for 3-4 days.
I'm trying to replicate Cain's Dark Mild.

I'm considering trying Safbrew S-33.
Recipe is with 60% mash efficiency.

Probably because I'm a foreigner, who's seriously engaged in the arts.

Some of my posts probably come off as a tad manic. This is largely due to being unemployed. I have way too much time on my hands. Things will mellow shortly.

Hmm
quite high levels in crystal, and no sugar to thin things down.
I would think to my mind this would turn out more porterish(if there is such a word  ). But then again Porter and mild it is alluded have a shared history

I have just racked my own mild into a barrel and it quaffs well, as it 40C in the shade at the moment. Your looking for malty thirst quencher as you appear to be going for a more modern(after 1916) dark mild, as opposed to a Malty beast like a Sarah Hughs with a high OG(1,060 or more).

If you do look to include sugar choose well as it should add a flavour note too  No point have a ingredient and and not bringing any flavour I say.

Maybe cut the 60L crystal in half, and add .226kg of Demerara?
