Advice please guys

I started a Great Barr bitter kit on 5/8/08,SG was 1052 @ 18c, has been dropping steadily and stood at 1022 yesterday. I was getting concerned that it was a bit slow so roused the yeast and put it on a heatpad, now sitting at 24c. I know i shouldnt mess with stuff but im now concerned it might be too warm but dont want to compound the error by taking it back off the pad-its still producing CO2 and smells fine-but im a bit worried about the amount of time its gonna be sitting on the yeast, its times like this i really miss DaaB

I don't think you had a problem in the first place, to be honest - it would have been better to leave it be and keep monitoring the gravity. Fermentation always slows down towards the end.

I would take that heat belt off; 24C is too warm.

Thanks Jim, i,ll take it straight off the pad, what about the issue of sitting on the yeast for maybe another 5-6 days?

That's not a problem - it'll be fine for up to 3 or even 4 weeks.

Quick update-further advice appreciated. After 4 days of sitting @ 1022 i decided after researching stuck fermentation threads on here to add another packet of Muntons Gold yeast, i just sprinkled it on top and almost immediately saw activity, lots of small bubbles being released so stirred it gently with steralised paddle and all sorts of crap from the bottom of the FV started rising to the surface-still smells good no off notes. Is there anything else i need to do to get this brew down to a reasonable FG? was hoping for about 1010 or better

Make sure it's 18-20 degrees and just leave it alone now until say, Thursday before another hydro check. I doubt you'll get down to 1.010 if stuck at 1.022, but you may get halfway there. Good luck.
