And next up: Mild

Post by Effigy » Thu Aug 21, 2008 4:31 pm

I'm planning my next brew to be a Mild:

Batch size: 20L

3.840 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter
0.160 kg Crystal Malt
0.090 kg Black Malt
0.090 kg Chocolate Malt

39g Fuggles
S-04 Yeast

Est ABV: 3.75%

I'm hoping this turns out ok - I love a good Mild, but its rapidly getting rarer these days :(

So, weather dependant, I'll be brewing either this Saturday or Sunday.

I love a good mild. Mine turned out pretty well, but isn't too sweet. I think i will use more Crystal in my next one.

Edit: also, i won't bother ordering specialty mild malt for the majority of the grist, either. Doesn't really make a vast ammount of difference.

Is it me or has that beertools recipe format gone ove the top with the (un)significant figures? Is your water really at 15.56C?

It's teh default mash spec. if i fancy it i add the details in, but most of the time i don't bother.

It's more useful for people who use it for commercial quantities, where such things could have significant effect on the bottom line.

I've now got Monday off work (was scheduled to go in but Sod 'em  ), SWMBO is going out for the morning so everything is scheduled for a great brewday on Monday!

I'll let you know how it goes.

Perhaps we can start a campaign to encourage more Mild 8)

Mild is one of those 'disappearing brews' that everyone seems to love. I've made up a WLP-002 starter for my Mild next week. Hope all goes well for you :D
