This was my last brew and it is beautiful. Should work ok with Nottingham yeast but I find it a bit flavourless.

5.25 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter 88.53 %
0.50 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt 8.43 %
0.18 kg Wheat, Torrified 3.04 %
60.00 gm East Kent Goldings [4.50 %] (60 min)
25.00 gm East Kent Goldings [4.50 %] (20 min)
15.00 gm East Kent Goldings [4.50 %] at flame off
S-04 yeast

Cheers Mightymouth What flavour difference will the SO.4 make?

It won't make a whole lot of difference. Nottingham is very neutral and seems to impart no flavours of its own to the beer. I have used Nottingham successfully and it might actually make this beer better. Give it a try.

Just a thought would it be worth trying Windsor to get a fruitier flavour/aroma?

you'll end up with a sweeter beer if you do try windsor.

Give nottingham a try first time round, it will attenuate well and allow you to get to grips with your EKG flavour.

I will be brewing with EKG very soon.

25L: @ ~1.044

5Kg maris otter (66C mash)

collect 30L, boil away 5

40g EKG (FWH*)
40g EKG (10 mins)
20g EKG (flame-out)

*just in case you aren't sure - chuck them in the boiler first, then drop your runnings from the MT straight onto them.

Just an update. thanks to Gurgeh and Mighty mouth, i used both your recipies.

5Kgs Maris Otter

Hops
60g 90 mins
25g 15 mins
15g F/O

homemade mashtun worked (hurrah!) the boil went fine and i ended up with 24L at 1.049! Also this morning i have a rocky yeast head so all seems fine and dandy. Oh and it smells out of this world.

P.s. I did use nottingham yeast

Cheers once again
Andrew

nice one Alefric. keep us posted, as I started my first AG a couple of weeks ago with

5kg MO
300g crystal

Cascade at 60, 30 and 1.

and Nottingham yeast.

In an ideal world it would be awsome to compare brews :)
