Spare Yeast

Post by vacant » Thu Aug 28, 2008 11:04 am

I just baked some rolls using wherry yeast. They rose slower but apart from that the ale yeast did a good job (into the breadmaker with 2 cups strong white, 1 cup wholemeal, 1 cup water, sachet wherry yeast, bit of salt, oil & sugar then "dough" program, when done chop up the dough, leave to rise on a baking tray for at least an hour, bake 15-20 mins).

Wilko's still have £14.99 wherry kits, I use safale04 with these so I'd several spare yeasts in the fridge.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

nice work. I wonder what bread yeast would do to a beer. I suspect thats a more onerous and expensive experiment though.

Yeah, ruining a loaf wouldnt hurt too much in the course of an experiment but the thought of losing 40 pints or so is too painful to think about.
