Kegging - 1st time newbie needs some help

Post by abaxas » Thu Aug 28, 2008 12:41 pm

Hi all,

Just a quick question about kegging.

My stout appears to have finished at (1.014 sg) so instead of the usual bottling I'm going to finally use my king keg.

So should I...

1) Drop some campden tablets in now, kill the yeast, wait a couple of days, transfer to king keg, force carb with the wigdet thingy and put in fridge.

2) Transfer into king keg with 70g of disolved sugar, leave in coolish place for a couple of weeks. Put in fridge and drink.

Any better suggestions?

I usually put it in the keg with a handful of sugar. Then leave it for 2 weeks.
Normally you'd shy away from using sugar to carbonate your keg, because it produces sediment, but in the king keg it doesn't really matter as the sediment settles below the tap anyway.
