Dead space

When you say you add extra amount of water to compensate for dead space in the bucket in bucket mash tun,do you mean the amount of water up to the bottom of the tap,o'r do you mean enough water to make it to the bottom of the inner bucket plus what ever the mash water required for the recipie.

I mean the amount of water below the inner bucket; the rationale is that this water is dead space because it isn't involved directly in mashing - it is just filling up the space below the inner bucket. I assume others mean the same. :wink:
