Right - looks like this time it worked! Collected around 10-11 litres of wort from the 1kg of grain- but think I got there. One thing i didn't really notice was the hot break - was expecting quite a vigorous froth but got nothing near it - just a thin surface covering. Is that bad news? Currently finishing the boil now. Have been topping it up lots with the exces wort. 20 mins to go before trying to cool it....

10 litres from 1kilo? I am thinking that's 'over' efficient I get 23l from 4 or 4.5 kilos at a gravity of 1.040. Dont be put off trying, but I think you may benefit from a demo. Unfortunately I am not brewing for another three weeks or so .. I can't begin to match Seveneer's set up though i am afraid. I may be able to lend the occasional item though if you're near enough? What part of Hampshire are you in?

Actually, thinking about the amount of wort I collected I think it was more like 8-9 litres (judging by what I can visually remember) to get the gravity down to the 1006-1008 mark. After the boil I ended up with a gravity of 1038. I made a stout - using the 70, 20 10% ratio for the grains - and used Daab's mini mash method. Would that make a difference to the amount I collected?

Agree about Seveneer's setup, blimey, & I live in Winchester.
