Post by williamoid » Tue Sep 09, 2008 9:59 pm

hi all, i made my first batch of beer yesterday, a muntons wheat beer.
i pitched the yeast around 21.00pm last night (monday) and it`s now 22.00pm (tuesday) and still no bubbles from the air lock although there is foam on top of the wort. is this normal?
cheers,
willie.

It should be just fine. Might take a couple of days to start going - don't rush it!

You have foam on top of the wort thats a good sighn, Is the top of the fermenter on tight ? if its not your bubbler wont show any action as the CO2 is escaping through the gap between the lid and FV itself.

Not sure but if your lid is fitting OK it could be just a slow starting yeast. I did a wheat beer with the Weheinstepahner yeast from Wyeast, was dead as a dodo for 48 hours, was getting worried. When I returned on day 3, I was even more worried, as the yeast was trying to get out the door (it was way past getting out of the fermenter, and was working its way accross the carpet - woops) - It was like something from a B movie....
