Just water usually goes in to make sure the pressure has to push through the water in a series of bubbles. Others have been known to use a water / vodka mix incase it get's puched back into the brew, thus hoping the vodka keeps it sterile. Anyway fitting an airlock keeps air out of your brew. FYI I basically just half fill mine.

Hi, I noticed that you are brewing the Vina Traditional Lager. I done this a few months back and it was very strong. The OG was at the point wine should be!!! I added the right amount of Glucose (1Kg).
What was your OG?
Saying that - It turned out to be a good lager (after about a month of conditioning).
