Whitbread London Porter (1850) : 04-Oct-08

Post by mixbrewery » Sat Oct 04, 2008 8:01 am

I know it's a bit later to have this ready for crimbo but i can sneak a few tasters to check on the progress

One note on the chocolate malt.
The last batch I got from H&G was lighter than normal. Usually it has a colour of 800 EBC, this time was only 600 EBC.
Will this change the taste profile significantly?

Hope all went well. Should be well in time for Christmas. Is that a Durden Park recipe?

3 packs of S-04 certainly does the job.
24 hours after pitching and its gone mad, I just hope it hasnt all ended up in the demijohn airlock.

Nearly, changed the black malt to chocolate to match a brew by another LAB member.
Looking forward to comparative tasting sessions 8)

Fermentation has really slowed up and its only down to 1.020 after 14 days.
Added another re-hydrated yeast this morning to try and tease it down to at least 1.015.

If i keg/bottle now it will be a very sorry excuse for a porter as the starting og was a bit low , only 1.060. :(

You'll still get a nice dark ale :)

mixbrewery don't be surprised if it stops at 1.018, anyway you will want a bit of body to compete with the hops

When I last brewed this mine finished rather high as well. I can't recall the exact FG but the OG was 1.060 and I ended up at 5.5% ABV. That was using Danstar Nottingham yeast
