Homebrew shop, central London?
Homebrew shop, central London?
I'm coming over to London for a few days and thought I might try and pick up some genuine Maris Otter malt while I've got the chance. Does anyone know a homebrew shop in the Central London area where I might be able to score a few kilos?
Re: Homebrew shop, central London?
I don't know of any and i've lived here half my life.
There used to be one in Charlton in South-east London but I don't know if its there anymore.
I've considered the idea of setting one up, but the combination of easy internet shopping and exorbitant london shop rents make it unrealistic.

Sounds like another type of deal that might take place in Amsterdam."score a few kilos"
Nothing in central London - where are you staying? we could direct you to the nearest place.

I think it's somewhere not too far from Kings Cross - apparently you can rent hotels there by the day as well as the hour.ashbyp wrote: Nothing in central London - where are you staying? we could direct you to the nearest place.

You might be thinking of W.A.E. Busby in Farringdon rd. I used to go there a lot in the 1970s but don`t think it is still there.

Renting by the hour and scoring by the kilo.
Sounds like you're gonna have fun in old London Town

No homebrew shops in Central London...
I bought a sack of Maris Otter from Barley Bottom. I could do you some for £1.51/kg which is what it cost me including P&P, if you want to come out to Sudbury Hill on the Piccadilly Line. Send me a PM.
Alternatively you could look at Brouwland but I'm not sure they have Maris Otter...

The guy used to make absolutely superb narrow range hydrometers . . . went in one day, and he made me on the spot three narrow range ones covering the specific ranges of gravity I wanted, cost was 10 quid each in 1987Dennis King wrote:You might be thinking of W.A.E. Broke them all though

glad someone else remembers the shop, no pre packing, they use to weigh the ingredience before you. Funny the 2 guys always seemed pissedAleman wrote:The guy used to make absolutely superb narrow range hydrometers . . . went in one day, and he made me on the spot three narrow range ones covering the specific ranges of gravity I wanted, cost was 10 quid each in 1987Dennis King wrote:You might be thinking of W.A.E. Re: Homebrew shop, central London?
I work in West London and live in North London, so was looking for shops in Central London so I could pop in on my way home. There are two entries on www.yell.com. IWC in Berkley Square are nothing to do with booze (they're into investments, so obviously in the wrong category) and Nesbitt Consultants only supply to the booze trade. The closest I've been able to find to central London is:
Mattock Lane Pharmacy
8, St Johns Parade, Mattock Lane, London, W13 9LL
Tel: 020 8567 9153
They're about 50 minutes from Oxford Circus. Go here:

For directions (W13 9LL is the postcode which you'll need to enter)
They've got a pretty good range of kit, books and some grain and hops. Didn't get a chance for a good look as I was in a hurry.
