Any Homebrewing shops in Merseyside?

Staying on the Wirral at inlaws. Thought I may escape and browse the local homebrew shop for the next kit... this time with spray malt ;>) !

but a web search found nothing. Anyone know of a shop on the Wirral or in the city? Thanks.

Yeppers - there's one just down the road from me in Birkenhead. Oxton Road, right in town. It's a health food and homebrew shop :)

Also, Wilcos are stocking now too and we got a couple of them on the wirral. Fairly decent range but if you're after anything specialist you'd be better off going to the shop ;)

Not sure of any out of Birkenhead, but I know there *are* some.

It's the same road as Marriotts (bike shop), Kit Stop (model shop) and leads up from the McDonalds at Charring Cross. Post back if you're not sure where I mean and I can give more detail ;)

In fact - google maps to the rescue.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr ... 1&t=h&z=19

It's the red roofed building in the middle there. The pay and display behind it is 50p for half an hour (or it's only a couple of minutes walk up from the main shopping area if you want to treat the SWMBO to a day out too).

Thanks. Dropped into shop today. Shop assistant was friendly but pretty clueless on the homebrew products which was a shame as I like a natter when choosing a kit! I instead picked up some spraymalt that all you guys seem to now use to see what the fuss is about ;>)

Then went to Wilcos. Picked up the Geordie kit that seem pretty good for £7.99. Youngs was just £6.99!! Its just down the road from inlaws so really handy. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

He did come across a little clueless the times I've been in too, although he seems to know which kits fare better so I guess he's dabbled himself too ;)

It's a shame Wilcos don't carry a bigger range of equipment or I'd stick loyal to them for everything. Then again, it could just be a test run to see how they do. People yap on about big business killing the small guy, but hell as a consumer I appreciate the buying power of a chain! £14.99 for a Wherry, why certainly - thank you very much!

On the subject of cost it can be worth sticking with your local supplier. Why? Well I use the shop in Blackheath market (that's the West Midlands version of Blackheath!). Only a small place, so doesn't have a hugh range, but, Woodefordes Wherry for £15.50!? I know where I'll place my business, and it ain't Wilcos (though I guess they should be applauded for making the effort).

Entirely agree with you about using your local supplier Richard.
John who owns the stall "Brew and View" on Blackheath market is a friendly helpful guy and is very reasonable with his prices. E.g. His Coopers is £8.30p which has only just gone up from £8.00p. I have not seen Coopers cheaper anywhere else (unless out of date).
So what if he charges .50p more than Wilko's on his Woodforde's kits (which is still cheaper than most stockists anyway) I guarantee you will save it on other things that you buy from him.
Wilko's only stock the Wherry, John will get you anything from the Woodforde's range. Plus the fact Wilko know nothing about what they sell, and i'm not just talking about homebrew supplies.

Don't entirely agree with you on the above statement though. To say he only has a small stall on the market I would say he carries a very impressive amount of stock and if he doesn't have what you want, just ask him and he will do his best to get it for you in a very short time.
Less than a week with the stuff that i've asked him to get.

The only draw back that I have found with Brew and View (John's stall) is the fact that the market only opens three days per week which are Monday, Friday and Saturday.
So if anybody reading this is planning a visit, make sure you go on the above mentioned days.
