dry hopping with pellets

Post by Gurgeh » Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:20 pm

I brewed a 1.055 IPA with firstgold to 41 IBU on Monday.

It was always my plan to put 50g of hop pellets in there (7 gallons) tomorrow (day 3 of fermentation)

I've not dry hopped with pellets before, so do i need to put them in a muslin bag or can i just pitch them in as they are (clarity concerns)

If your fermentation is largely done, you can just chuck 'em in. In about 5-7 days, they'll have sunk to the bottom of your fermenter. Then just rack off like you usually do.

No clarity issues with pellets. They seem to obey the laws of gravity, although I have not dry hopped in primary before. If they take a while to sink or clear, it may be because primary is still slightly active. Sounds like a tasty brew.
