Brewferm Beers

Post by martyn142 » Sat Oct 25, 2008 11:53 am

Hi all

I have a Brewferm Framoboos and a Triple kit ready to do. It says they should be brewed at 25C. Is this right - it seems very warm.

it will be fine, i always brew at about room temp, which in my small room is about 22c and find its perfect for those stronger brewferm kits as it gives a great aroma to the beer. i havent brewed at 25 deg, however its got close during the summer and i found it didnt affect the beers adversely (stronger belgian ones admittedly)

Hope this helps

Chris

Thanks Chris - it's fermenting away in the boilerhouse now where it is 22-24C so fingers crossed.

Damfoose - yes I will be on to the Framboos next. We had some when in Bruges last year and it was very nice. I wasn't too fussed on the Kriek but loved just about every other beer I had there.

Did my two kit Abbey the other week at between 22 & 24 degrees C, without any issues. Then primed it at 20 degrees C for a further week.

Tasted it after 3 weeks and it's the best 'winter' style brew I've had ever. I only drink it via a wine glass, as at 8%, it's sure to get you 'tangled'.

I do like the Brewferms kits (got a Xmas brew conditioning), so will be looking to do a few in the new year.

Both of my brewferms kits stopped at highish FG's Xmas 1028 & Abby 1018. I tried giving the yeast a swirl, tried adding additional yeast but still couldn't get them lower.

In the end, I just popped them in the keg, with some priming sugar (not really required for Xmas brew) & as if by magic, they started fermenting again, so I can only assume that fermentation stopped as it ran out of fermentable sugar because as soon as I added said fermentable sugar (with no additional yeast, at the same temparture etc), the whole thing kicked off again.

I've tried both brews and they are perfect & strong (both in taste & ABV), so sweet or not, they're excellent brews.

My Kriek went down to 1016 (after 10 days), but as it started a 1055 I thought it was acceptable.
