Bushido Bitter----Yes, it's new------

Post by TAXMACKEM » Sun Oct 26, 2008 10:30 pm

First an apology for no pics as I hadnt intended to post
Second, my thanks to Garth and HH for attending, supporting, and generally keeping me on the right track (God knows, I need it).
This was my third attempt at my own recipe, Bushido Bitter, the first batch of which, got a definite thumbs up from Garth and HH, and after a most succesful brewday, I have every expectation this one will be better.( We wont mention the second one----) .
Its a quite dark, malty ale, OG was about 1054, and am looking at about 5.8 ABV if ferments properly. Daft I know as I made the recipe, but I hadnt really realised it would be that high, will adjust for less next time I think, but was very happy with the resulting flavours the first time =P~

It may not be correctly balanced,it may look a complete pigs ear to the more technical lads on here, But I did it to hopefully suit my palate, which it did perfectly ( more good luck than management), and I've never claimed to be a master brewer. ,but I like it, and that's what counts isnt it-------------------- I hope someone else will try it and like it too, if you do,please give feedback. Thanks

Recipe follows----

Pale malt----5.14kg
Aromatic---- 400g
Crystal (60L)--280g

Colour is 45.4 EBC

Exacly, that is the main advantage of ag brewing as far as I am concerned, you can tailor your recipes to your taste.

My favourite tipple is a traditional. well hopped bitter. However, if you prefer a dark, malty, lightly hopped beer this is a sound recipe. I am speaking from personal experience as I tried the mk1 version myself.

How is this doing now Taxmackem, I trust all is well & it is now fermenting! [-o<

Hope all turns out well. Thats what its all about, formulating your own recipe and then tweaking it. I'm not sure if I'll ever see the day whereby I make the same recipe twice!

Thanks Jim, :D

Cheers for positive comments Garth and HH,hope this one lives up to its early promise !It would be such a shame if it didnt after the brewing went so well.Time will tell---------------

Yes, its off like a rocket, rocky head by the time I went to bed,all looks good-----------cant wait now.
I'm praying it comes out like the first one, something to be proud of posting here, but as HH says, its not as important as as me enjoying it,as HH likes hoppy beers, and Garth likes hoppy hoppy errr hoppy beers,I like malty ones and I brew for me, but I must confess, if it turns out to be a good recipe ,happy days :D If it turns out rubbish I can blame Garth abd HH, easy see ! , but I think I may well reduce the ABV next time, hic.

For Booldawg,

I think a tweak is inevitable, less ABV, and, because I'm a novice, the way I will learn about the effects hops and yeast have on flavour, is to mess with them, lol, so will alter one thing at a time, and start by increasing the hopping. If I dont like it, I just go back to the original !!
