, also not having a keg ill be bottling
1. I use the supplied yeast, Cooper's supply Safale and it's very good.
2. Either, but the Dark makes it extra good IMHO... adds more of the 'roast' flavour, and it turns out as black as a gorilla's goolies.
3. You want some priming, don't overdo it though... 4g per litre is okay. It adds a little sharpness, and helps form the head when pouring. It also prevents oxidation, the action of the yeast helps scavenge any remaining oxygen.

I bottle mine, it works fine. The problem with kegs is that, unless you have some way of topping up the CO2, the carbonation of the last pint will be completely different to the first. With bottles, you do get consistancy.

How I envy you, Prozac!

But, never mind; I've just been told I have a quite disgusting level of 'windfall' coming to me. I'm planning to buy in another FV, or two. Several kegs and ..... well; Let's just say Both my suppliers better have a healthy stock of Coopers Irish Stout kits available. Because I'll likely clear them Both out!

I fully intend to set up a roll over process of CIS making that'll ensure I never have to sit here drinking this bloody Guinness again

You always refer to it as Coopers Irish Stout...... I'm sure my can only had 'Stout' ....sans 'Irish'.....
I guessed it was the same stuff.

Mine never had the massive head on it, just checked and there is a reasonable head but no 'The Blob' event's of which both me and wife are pleased

I bought my first Corny yesterday, so the KK will be ready in antici........................................pation for the Stout.

Coopers do a couple of "stouts" the Irish Stout is in their brewmaster selection.
You probably just had a can of stout from their original selection which is just called "stout"

OMG! Prozac, I've really No Idea what their " Stout " will be like, mate. Hopefully, it'll be great. But, either way; Just know that their " Irish Stout " is right off the chart.

What ever and regardless of how this 'Stout' turns out; Try an Irish

I've always referred to the standard Cooper's Stout kit (with the white label), which is a truly excellent kit.

The Brewmaster Irish Stout (with the black/green label) is on the Cooper's website, I never knew there was such a thing, and I've never seen it in any of the online shops in th UK. Where can you get it? :-s

SP, ye've just saved the day ~ and what slim vestige is left of my own sanity!

Your comments about the tins made me get up and go to my back room, where I stash shit. I knew my last Coopers tin was sat there, right on top of my recyclables sack. I went and got it. Here it is!

Situation sorted and Prozac there is in for a pint to make him wish he'd brewed more, is he not? :D

God knows where I got the " Irish " from. Maybe someone on here called it that? Maybe a web site selling the stuff did? These things stick with me. It's almost like dyslexia; I can misread or mispronounce the reading of a word first time off? Could take me decades to realise I'd been wrong all along, and then it's a hell of a job to change how I say it.

But there's no arguing with what it says on the can: " Australian coopers stout " !

And I always thought all they had the 'taste' to drink was gnats piss lager served out of dry iced 'tinnys' I'm Delighted to stand so corrected!

Gents -

A question regarding the Coopers Irish Stout (black can) - NOT Coopers Stout (white can)

The recipe calls for 500g of light DME and 300g of Dextrose. Can I replace the dextrose with more DME, will this give a fuller stout? Will it be better or should I just stick to adding the 300g Dextrose?

Any suggestions?

I can't wait to make this!!! It sounds like I'll absolutely love this.

Thanks

I always ignore the instructions and make the standard stout kit with 1Kg of spraymalt/DME, and it always turns out great - I would be inclined to do the Irish Stout the same. I never add anything else, the kit doesn't need it, and there's no place in a stout kit for glucose, IMHO.

To make is extra dark and tasty, use dark spraymalt...

'Morning' all! I'm up. I'm back. And I'm firing on all four cylinders again!

Cheers, Argyle. I've just come back from the Coopers site. Sure enough, there's the " Stout " that's rocked my world and I've always called 'Irish Stout'. Then there is indeed a black, brewmaster tin of Irish Stout. This is potentially phenomenal! I mean, if their plain old, bottom of the pile, bog standard Stout can be That good; What in gods name must the top quality product do to a man?!

Thing is, I'm actually a little bit wary of finding out now. What if I actually find the Stout preferable? Think what I'll do is buy in a case of plain Stout and a kit or two of Irish ~ IF I can get it here? What ever the outcome, I know that I - and my man Prozac there - am in for a hell of a brew with the Stout. If that Irish can be any better, that'll just be a bonus

Get a can of each and brew them side by side for comparison. The added bonus being twice as much stout :)

Bloody good thinking, Marts ;) IF it's available to me here, I'll try that. Bit of an If 'mind, because I only have the choice of two suppliers, neither of them 'big time'.

This is also why I haven't checked their stock lists yet. What ever it might say tonight could all change in a few weeks time. Sold out or stocked up. We'll see.

Either way, I Like the idea of 'More Stout'!

Hey Ditch, best of luck getting both of those. [-o<

Either way you know you'll have great brewing and even better consuming! :)

Since you've made the Coopers Stout I was wondering does it produce a Beamish - Murphy's or Guinness type stout, or something different?

Do you know know any kits or recipes that will do this?
