Winter Warmer '08 29/10/08

Here's what's in store for this evening a hybridized recipe from BYO magazine several years back:

Recipe for 40L (10 gallons)
24 lbs Pale Malt, Maris Otter
1 lbs 8.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L
5.3 oz Black (Patent) Malt
6 lbs Pale Liquid Extract
4.00 oz Centennial [10.40 %] (60 min)
0.26 tsp Cloves (Boil 0.0 min)
0.26 tsp Ginger (Boil 0.0 min)
0.50 tsp Cinnamon (Boil 0.0 min)
0.50 tsp Nutmeg (Boil 0.0 min)
3 Pkgs SafAle English Ale (DCL Yeast #S-04) Yeast-Ale

This is a big 9% monster that will be split between three of us. Not enough room to mash the originally required 39lbs of grain so I'm substituting some extract. Never done this but should work out.

Asprins are 45p for 10, I'd have some in ready with the look of that grain bill

All went well with the brewing. Sorry no pictures :( One of the nicer moments was the tasting round table that developed and about 3-4 neighbors wandering over, following their noses.
